Special equipment for tank fabrication

Ample Workshop Space:
Furphy Engineering is well served by a spacious site and excellent workshop facilities.  Our factory includes a dedicated carbon steel fabrication shop, dedicated stainless steel fabrication shop, dedicated wash down facilities for passivating and cleaning of stainless steel vessels, dedicated blasting and painting facilities.  Also located on our site are our own laser cutting and folding workshop and Hot Dip Galvanizing Plant.

Keyhole plasma welding:
Furphy Engineering has Australia's only welding system incorporating keyhole plasma welding mounted on a column and boom for use specifically in the fabrication of tanks and vessels.  The SAF machine, developed and produced in France, produces superior welding of stainless steel shells from 3mm - 16mm in thickness.  The keyhole process is almost autogenous meaning very little filler wire is used.  In addition to this the keyhole process allows for single pass butt welds with no edge preparation up to 10mm.  This means more consistent, smoother welds of higher integrity!

Boldrini Dishing Press:
Furphy Engineering operates a 200 tonne Boldrini dishing press for producing dished heads.  The press enables heads to be produced in hemi-spherical, tori-spherical, semi-elipsoidal profiles.  Heads up to 4.5metres in diameter can be produced in stainless and carbon steels and other alloys.

Boldrini Flanging Machine:
Furphy Engineering operates a Boldrini Ribo 15 flanging machine for producing a "knuckle" on the dishes produced in the dishing press.  This knuckle allows for a butt weld connection between the shell of the tank or vessel to be effected.

7m x 7m Welding boom:
In our carbon steel workshop sits our enormous 7m welding boom.  Fitted with a 1000 amp welding machine and submerged arc welding tool this machine also incorporates flux reclamation and video control of the welding head.  Combined with tank rotators to move the tank this is an extremely effective method of fabricating your tank.
